There are days when I tell myself that Cassie is not just a cat.
She is a presence.
A breath.
A small silent soul who reminds me, without even trying, of the essence of Buddhism: living here, now, with simplicity.
When I watch her walk softly in the apartment, as if every step were a prayer, I understand something I have read for a long time in the teachings: peace is not a goal, it is a way of being.
And Cassie… she does it naturally.
Buddhism: a living path, not just a theory 🌿
Buddhism is not only ideas or complicated words.
It is not a religion that asks you to believe blindly.
It is a path that invites you to observe.
Observe your mind.
Observe your breath.
Observe your emotions.
Observe what you do when you suffer.
The Buddha did not say: “Believe me.”
He said, in a simple way: “Come and see for yourself.”
And Cassie shows me this every day.
She does not “think” peace.
She lives it.
Cassie lives like a monk: simple, attentive, present 🐈✨
A Zen monk does not try to collect things.
He does not run after a thousand desires.
He does not get lost in noise.
Cassie doesn’t either.
She needs very little:
-
a quiet corner,
-
a bit of warmth,
-
a gentle presence,
-
a bowl of food,
-
and… a huge inner world.
When she lies down, she really lies down.
When she drinks, she really drinks.
When she looks out the window, she looks as if she is contemplating the whole universe.
And me, next to her, I am often in my head.
I am in tomorrow.
I am in “I must.”
I am in “I should.”
Cassie brings me back to what truly matters.
The lesson of silence: meditating without forcing 🤍
Sometimes we think that meditating means “not thinking anymore.”
But that is a myth.
Meditation is about coming back.
Again.
And again.
Coming back to the breath.
Coming back to the body.
Coming back to the present moment.
Cassie does not fight her thoughts.
She does not fight the world.
She settles.
And she lets life pass through her.
That is exactly the spirit of Buddhist meditation:
Don’t cling.
Don’t reject.
Just be here.
Suffering exists… but it can transform 🔥➡️🌸
Buddhism is deep because it does not lie.
It does not say: “Everything will be fine, just be positive.”
It says: suffering is part of life.
But it adds something powerful:
suffering can be understood, crossed, and softened.
When I am tired, stressed, or worried…
Cassie sometimes comes close to me.
No speech.
No advice.
Just her presence.
And in that presence, I feel a simple truth:
We don’t always need to fix things.
Sometimes we just need to be accompanied.
Compassion: the heart of the path 💛
In Buddhism, compassion is not weakness.
It is strength.
Compassion means seeing pain… and not looking away.
It means staying human.
It means staying alive.
And I believe animals, like Cassie, are masters of silent compassion.
They do not judge.
They do not calculate.
They love in a simple way.
When Cassie comes gently and puts her paw on me, I understand:
this is kindness.
Simplicity: the spiritual luxury 🕯️
We live in a world that pushes us to want more.
More success.
More money.
More validation.
More noise.
But Buddhism offers something else:
less… but better.
Less attachment.
Less anger.
Less distraction.
And instead:
-
more presence,
-
more peace,
-
more clarity,
-
more gratitude.
Cassie does not need to prove anything.
She does not need to shine.
She just is.
And it is beautiful.
A mini Buddhist practice with Cassie (do it today) 🧘♂️🐾
If you want to practice right now, here is a very simple meditation inspired by Cassie:
-
Sit comfortably.
-
Put one hand on your belly.
-
Breathe slowly.
-
Look at your cat (or imagine Cassie if you don’t have one).
-
Say inside:
“Like her, I can be simple.”
-
Then repeat:
“I inhale, I come back.”
“I exhale, I let go.”
Even 2 minutes are enough.
Cassie, my little Zen teacher 🌙
I don’t need a huge temple to feel Buddhism.
Sometimes it is right here…
In a breath.
In a cup of tea.
In a ray of sunlight.
And in Cassie.
She reminds me that peace is not far away.
It is just hidden behind the noise of my mind.
So I watch her.
I breathe.
I smile.
And I tell myself:
today, I will try to be a little more like her. 🐾✨
💬 And you, does your animal help you come back to calm?
