Mindfulness: The Importance… and the Limits… of Setting Goals 🧘♂️🐾
Sometimes, mindfulness looks very simple:
breathe, feel, come back to the present moment.
But in real life… we are human.
We have busy days.
We have emotions.
We have dreams.
And often, we want to move forward.
So we set goals.
And that is normal.
Because when you love life, you want to take care of yourself.
When you want to heal, you want to grow.
When you want to feel stable, you want to feel stronger.
🌿 Goals can be a light.
But goals can also become pressure.
And Cassie knows it.
She looks at me with calm eyes.
She feels when I am too hard on myself.
She comes closer, softly…
like she is saying:
“Thomas… be gentle. A goal is not a punishment.”
✅ Cassie approves this message.
1) Why setting goals can be a good thing 🌿
A goal is not always an obligation.
A good goal is a direction.
A small lighthouse.
A helping hand.
For example:
-
“I will meditate 2 minutes a day.”
-
“I will breathe before sleeping.”
-
“I will drink one glass of water and listen to my body.”
-
“I will write one kind sentence in my journal.”
This kind of goal does not scare you.
It does not break you.
It helps you.
Mindfulness + goals = clarity.
And Cassie loves clarity.
Cats love simple things.
When Cassie wants to sleep… she sleeps.
When she wants to eat… she eats.
When she wants a cuddle… she comes.
No justification.
No shame.
No stress.
🐾 Cassie approves: “A goal should feel like a warm blanket, not like a cage.”
2) The trap: when the goal becomes pressure 😵💫
Sometimes, we start with good intentions…
And then, slowly, we slip.
We begin to think:
-
“I must be perfect.”
-
“I must be disciplined all the time.”
-
“I must do more.”
-
“I must succeed or I am nothing.”
And then the goal is no longer a direction.
It becomes a judge.
And mindfulness becomes… performance.
But mindfulness is not a sport.
It is not a competition.
Mindfulness is a return.
Again.
And again.
🐾 Cassie approves: “If you feel tight inside, your goal is too heavy.”
3) The truth: sometimes I struggle to respect my own limits 💛
I will be honest.
Me too, sometimes, I struggle.
I want to be consistent.
I want to move forward.
I want to grow my blog.
I want to succeed in my training.
I want to become a better version of myself.
And that is beautiful.
But sometimes… I push too hard.
I want to do everything.
Right now.
Perfectly.
And I forget something essential:
✨ My limits are not weakness.
They are wisdom.
If I don’t listen to them,
my body will remind me.
My mind will remind me.
My energy will remind me.
Cassie too.
When I go too fast,
Cassie becomes calmer.
She sits near me.
She takes a little nap.
And sometimes, she puts her paw on me.
Like she is saying:
“I’m here. Slow down. Breathe.”
🐾 Cassie approves: “You are not a machine. You are my human.”
4) Mindfulness teaches a different kind of goal 🎯✨
A classic goal is often:
“I want to reach a result.”
But mindfulness says:
“I want to live the path.”
Because the real miracle…
is not being perfect.
It is being present.
So instead of:
-
“I must meditate 30 minutes.”
You can say:
-
“I will sit down, breathe, and be with myself, even for 2 minutes.”
Instead of:
-
“I must be calm all day.”
You can say:
-
“I will notice when I am stressed, and come back to my breath.”
Instead of:
-
“I must succeed 100%.”
You can say:
-
“I will do my best, with gentleness.”
🐾 Cassie approves: “The goal is not perfection. The goal is presence.”
5) Healthy goals vs goals that hurt 🌙
✅ A healthy goal feels like:
-
light
-
realistic
-
possible
-
kind
-
flexible
It helps you.
It gives you energy.
❌ An unhealthy goal feels like:
-
pressure
-
fear
-
guilt
-
self-criticism
-
“I must or I am nothing”
It makes you feel small.
It makes you feel stressed.
And mindfulness teaches this:
🌸 Guilt is not motivation.
Guilt makes you tired.
What truly motivates you is love.
🐾 Cassie approves: “Love helps you move forward. Fear blocks you.”
6) The golden rule: a goal must respect your energy 🔥🌿
Some days you have a lot of energy.
Some days you have less.
And that is normal.
So your goal must be able to breathe with you.
A living goal is a goal that adapts.
Today you do 10 minutes? Great.
Tomorrow you do 2 minutes? Great too.
Because the most important thing is:
✨ staying connected to yourself.
🐾 Cassie approves: “Even a tiny effort with love… is already huge.”
7) Cassie’s cute and deep advice 🐱💡
Cassie has a very advanced spiritual technique.
It is called:
The Cat Method™
Step 1: If you are tired → rest.
Step 2: If your mind is noisy → breathe.
Step 3: If you feel pressure → simplify.
Step 4: If you feel lost → come back to your body.
Step 5: If you feel alone → find comfort.
And Cassie adds a secret step:
Step 6: If you judge yourself → talk to yourself like you would talk to your cat.
Because you would never say to Cassie:
“You are bad. You failed.”
You would say:
“It’s okay my love… come… let’s breathe.”
So do the same with yourself.
🐾 Cassie approves: “Be your own safe place.”
8) A simple practice: goals with compassion 🌸
Here is a very simple practice.
You can do it in 1 minute.
-
Put one hand on your heart.
-
Breathe in slowly.
-
Breathe out slowly.
-
Tell yourself:
“Today, I do what I can. And it is already enough.”
Then ask yourself:
“What is one gentle, possible, kind goal for me today?”
Choose something small:
-
2 minutes of breathing
-
1 glass of water
-
1 short walk
-
1 gratitude sentence
-
1 moment of silence
And if you don’t do it…
You can restart.
Mindfulness is not “never falling.”
Mindfulness is coming back.
🐾 Cassie approves: “You can restart anytime. Even now.”
9) What mindfulness reminds you, every day 🕯️
Mindfulness reminds you:
-
You don’t need to be perfect to be worthy.
-
You don’t need to go fast to move forward.
-
You don’t need to force yourself to grow.
Sometimes, the real strength…
is to stop.
To breathe.
And to say:
“Right now, I am here.”
Final message 💛
Goals are useful.
But your peace is more important than your performance.
A goal should help you be more present.
Not more stressed.
And if sometimes you struggle to respect your limits…
You are not alone.
I struggle too.
But I have a little teacher with very soft paws.
Cassie reminds me every day:
“Be kind. Be slow. Be here.”
