A Day of Celebration
Today is a day of celebration in my country. The streets are filled with light and joy, but for me, Cassie, it's a day of challenges. I spent my day between purrs and cuddles, but as soon as the evening fell, the fireworks and firecrackers started. For me, it's war. I can't meditate, I hide, I'm afraid of these noises that remind me of war. I go to the room where we talk, where I feel reassured. Then I go see my master to make sure he's okay. I wonder why humans love these noises that terrify me.
My Point of View
Ears flattened back, body glued to the ground, claws dug into the couch... Every explosion is an alarm. I don't understand the celebration, but I remind you of a simple truth: fear is universal. The difference? I don't hide it.
For me, firecrackers are thunder without rain, invisible threats that pierce the night. Every detonation is a wave that overwhelms me, an invisible threat that terrifies me.
The Link with Spirituality
The Buddha said that suffering comes from our resistance to the present moment. I don't resist: I react, then I turn to you for refuge. What if we were with the Tibetan monks when the firecrackers arrive? Maybe their wisdom and calm would help us find inner peace.
In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna teaches Arjuna that the true warrior is the one who remains calm in the midst of chaos. I am that warrior: I show you how to find serenity, even when the world explodes.
Try this: with each detonation, breathe deeply (as if you were absorbing my fear), then exhale slowly by placing a hand on my body. You will create a bridge of calm between us.
Meditation for Two
Sit next to me, close your eyes, and synchronize your breathing with mine. Inhale for 4 counts when my belly rises, exhale for 6 counts when I relax. You'll be surprised: my purr becomes your mantra.
Studies show that the purrs of cats (between 20 and 140 Hz) reduce stress and promote healing. I am not just your companion, I am your natural therapist.
An Alternative Celebration
Light a candle (or a salt lamp) to symbolize the inner light. Whisper a simple mantra like 'Om Shanti' (peace) while petting me. Turn fear into a sacred moment.
Prepare a 'zen corner' with a blanket, a reassuring toy, and a bowl of fresh water. This will be our altar of peace for the evening.
Conclusion: A Different Light
Tonight, as the fireworks light up the sky, you have chosen another light: that of connection, breathing, and unconditional love. I won't remember the firecrackers, but I will remember that you were there. And you, you will remember that peace is not the absence of noise, but the presence of the other.
