One morning, I felt the urge to do something unusual: blend seated meditation with improvised dance, inspired by yoga. At the time, I didn’t yet know that Shiva was the deity who resonated most deeply within me, but something inside called me to explore this connection with the universe. That day, I sat cross-legged, ready to meditate, and Cassie, my cat, curled up beside me. She seemed to sense that this session would be different. Outside, the rain fell, creating a soothing melody that wrapped the space in an almost sacred atmosphere.
A Universal Intention
For the first time, I set a clear intention: that the energy of the universe would balance itself for the good of all. I deeply believe we are not alone in the cosmic vastness, and that every being, every element, is connected by an invisible web of energy. I whispered these words aloud, so Cassie could hear them too: “Thank you for everything that makes my life lighter.” Those simple words marked the beginning of an experience far greater than I could have imagined.
The Dance of Energies
I began by bringing my hands together in anjali mudra (the prayer gesture, often used in yoga to greet the divine), as if creating a pyramid between my palms and the sky. Almost immediately, I felt energy coursing through me—gentle yet powerful, like an electric current. Cassie seemed to feel it too. Her half-closed eyes, relaxed body, and paws moving in rhythm with mine… It was as if she was dancing with me, though I hadn’t asked her to.
Suddenly, images flashed in my mind: bolts of lightning and bursts of violet light. What do these symbols mean in Hinduism and Buddhism?
Lightning is often associated with Shiva, the god of destruction and transformation. It represents purification, renewal, and the raw power of nature that sweeps away the old to make way for the new.
Violet, in spiritual traditions, is the color of the crown chakra (Sahasrara), linked to divine connection, universal wisdom, and transcendence. It’s also the color of elevated spirituality, intuition, and energetic protection.
Seeing Cassie lift her paws in mirror to mine felt like a sign. Cats are extremely sensitive to subtle energies. Their presence during meditation or energy work is never accidental. In many cultures, cats are seen as guardians of the thresholds between worlds.
Cats in Ancient Egypt: Sacred Beings
n ancient Egypt, cats were revered as divine creatures. They were associated with the goddess Bastet, a symbol of protection, grace, and mystery. Bastet was often depicted with a cat’s head or as a cat herself, embodying both gentleness and strength. Egyptians believed cats had a special connection to the spiritual world. They were even mummified and buried with honors, as it was thought they guided souls to the afterlife. Their ability to see in the dark made them keepers of secrets and guides between the visible and invisible worlds.
Exchanging Energy with Cassie
I reached out my hand to her, inviting her energy to merge with mine. It might sound strange, but trust me: feeling that connection with such an intuitive being is incredibly powerful. That day, I realized I had unknowingly performed an instinctive energy cleansing. By moving my hands, visualizing light, and allowing energy to flow, I practiced a form of spontaneous yoga or moving meditation, similar to Qigong or Tao Yin, where the body becomes a channel for vital energy (prana or chi).
Where Science and Spirituality Meet
What I experienced that day is now supported by science: everything is energy. Quantum physics teaches us that every atom, every cell, vibrates at a particular frequency. Meditation, yoga, and even the presence of a sensitive animal like a cat can help harmonize these frequencies. Studies show that cats can detect electromagnetic fields and shifts in energy around them. Their purring, for example, emits frequencies that promote healing and relaxation.
A Practice to Explore
This experience opened my eyes: the universe is a vast dance of energies, and we are part of it. Here are a few ways to deepen this practice:
- Meditate with your animal: Cats make excellent meditation partners. Their presence is calming and grounding. Try synchronizing with their breath or movements.
- Intuitive yoga: Let your body move freely, without imposed choreography. It’s a form of dance meditation where you follow your intuition.
One Certainty: The Universe Listens
That day, I knew beyond a doubt that the gods—or the universe, as I prefer to call it—exist. Not as distant figures, but as a benevolent presence, an energy that flows through and connects us all. Cassie, with her feline wisdom, reminded me that spirituality isn’t just found in books or temples, but in the present moment, in movement, and in sharing with those around us—whether they have two legs or four.
